Advertising Case Study 3: Audrey Hepburn Galaxy advert

 1) Why is the advert set in the 1950s? What audience pleasure does this provide?

It provides Nostalgia as it computer generates an image of Audrey Hepburn a renowned Hollywood actress during the 1950s

The Hero and the donor are represented in this advert


3) How does the advert's narrative (story) follow Todorov's theory of equilibrium?
There is equilibrium at the beginning when she is on the bus and that peace is disrupted by the Man and his fruit stall. It is then later resolved with a new equilibrium by the chauffeur offering "Audrey Hepburn" to ride in his car and they drive off into the sunset


4) Who is Audrey Hepburn?
Audrey Hepburn was a British actress and humanitarian. Recognised as both a film and fashion icon, she was ranked by the American Film Institute as the third-greatest female screen legend from the Golden Age of Hollywood, and was inducted into the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame.

5) Why did Galaxy select Audrey Hepburn for this advert? 
This is because it would fit the narrative and context of the advert because it was set in the 1950s

Intertextuality  is where one media product (e.g. Galaxy) makes reference to other media products (e.g. Audrey Hepburn movies such as 1953 film Roman Holiday) to interest and engage the audience.

Her film Roman Holiday is suggested and it relates to the setting and the makeup she is wearing.

8) What are the connotations of Audrey Hepburn and celebrity in this advert? 
That she is fair, elegant and unique which are in alignment with the idea and brand identity of Galaxy


9) What representations of gender can you find in this advert?
You can see ladies represented as wonderful and she takes after the social standards in terms of charcteristics amid the 1950s of being flirtatious. The representation of a man being strong and confident is also portrayed. in this advert.

10) Are stereotypes reinforced or subverted in the Galaxy advert? Give examples.
You can see the reinforced stereotype of women wearing makeup and to be accompanied by a gentlemen. You can also see the reinforced stereotype of the gentlemen offering to let the woman ride in his car. You can clearly see Audrey Hepburn being flirtatious and elegant which reinforces the stereotype
