Denotation and Connotation

Denotation

In this advert there is a young black child who has fallen victim to the high rate of famine in Africa. The poster says 'Dig toilets, not graves'.The advert is typed in bold, white letters which is seen as a neutral colour. This font is used to make a statement which will reach out to consumers so that they are focused on the ad. In particular, this statement refers to the fact that others in harsher conditions need your help or the outcome will be a severe one.

Connotation

In this advert the young famished child is wearing worn out clothes which you could connote to the fact that his parents are unable to fend or purchase good quality clothes which could therefore be why they need support  from Water Aid to aid them and provide them with fundamental essentials which a child must have in an everyday life. Furthermore, The background of the photo (establishment) looks deserted and bare which could symbolise that the youth in this photo has to travel far in order to acquire items to live.

Denotation

In this advert I can see that the target audience for these pair of football boots is mid to late teenage years and young adults.I can also deduce that the shoes can prove to be a large influence to the target audience because the stars in the ad are world class pro footballers who are known for they play in football. Moreover, the styles differ between each boot to suit the preferences of the consumers. This is so other consumers who have a type of boot they like to purchase can choose which boot suits them.

Connotation

In this advert there is a tag line which says ‘All in or Nothing’.This is written in big bold letters and this tag line could inspire consumers to try their all when playing and could persuade them to go all in when buying the product from the producers. In addition the writing ‘all in’ is larger than ‘or nothing’ which could indicate that they are trying to persuade you to go ‘all in’ in terms of spending your money and playing on the pitch.
