Introduction to advertising: Key Conventions

 1) What key conventions of print adverts can you find and what are the connotations or deeper meanings of each convention?

In this advert I can see the logo, the slogan, the product picture. The colourful rainbow could suggest that it is targeted at children  because they would be attracted to it. The rainbow is also its USP



2) For each convention, write about how it might appeal to a target audience. 

The picture of the product would especially appeal to a young target audience of children and teenagers because it stands out and it is very bright. The logo is very clear and in the centre of the product in bold white typography. In addition the rainbow underscoring it would interest the children target audience because the different colour sweets would be tempting to try.




3) What is the USP (unique selling point) for Skittles and how do you know?

The USP for skittles is the rainbow because not only is it one of their key marketing assets, it also is consistently used throughout all products and the contribute to that, the slogan is taste the rainbow.
